Growing up I never had peanut butter. In fact, the first time I had it was beginning of high school and the first time I enjoyed it was a few years ago. Recently I moved on to Raw Almond Butter from Trader Joe's. With all this talk that has been going around of how good nuts are for you, I decided to make my own nut butter. After long deliberation I settled on hazelnuts.
1 1/2 cups hazelnuts
1 tbsp grape seed oil
1 tbsp agave nectar (I use raw)
The most important thing for this is to have a food processor. Throw the nuts in and let them process for a minute. Pour in oil and agave nectar and let it blend until it reaches your preferred consistency.
It ends up being a little thicker than the usual nut butters, but I prefer it that way. Spread it on a Melba toast and top it with some bananas. It makes a perfect snack for middle of the day, or after a run, or even before! You could even have it as a quick breakfast.
